Progenitor is the main project of producer Justin Hess. The sound is concentrated on the dark and dreamy side of electronica. Hess also experiments with elements of house, breakbeats, trance, trip hop, IDM, and drum & bass.
Influenced by old skool rap, classic rock, and brit pop — Progenitor’s tracks are diverse and interesting pieces that are not limited to any certain situation.
His newest LP, entitled “function (i),” is a terrific blend of modern-day music found in pop culture, as well as the underground. Each track delivers a different feel — for instance, “Popular Poison” is centered around a pounding kick and vocal loops, while “Yellow Lines Unbroken” integrates an urban sound with tribal connotations. “Wishing, Hoping (Cold Chill Mix),” and “Leave That Beach” are the albums brightest gems, generating calm moods, and relaxing the listener through-out.
Needless to say, this Progenitor CD is filled with professional tracks that deserve your attention. If you are a fan of electronic music, or any kind of music for that matter, this album is worth checking out.
