How Easy Is It To Buy From You?
When I was involved with sales training, one of the things we would look at when consulting a client was how easy it was for a customer to buy something from the business. How many hurdles did they have to jump over? The more hurdles, the smaller the sales numbers. In the world made smaller by the Internet, it’s WAY too easy to find someone else to do the same thing. If you make it hard for the customer, your competition is only a click away.
I started off June with three great e-mails. Each e-mail was asking for my band to play (people booking festivals, etc.). As I go through recruiting bands to join our the musician’s cyber cooler, I am AMAZED at how VERY HARD it is to CONTACT these people. I mean why do you hand out business cards, flyers, CD’s, etc.? You want these people to call you so you can work your mojo and convince them to book you. Instead of making it easy, I often have to click on a bio or other pages to see if they’ve included their e-mail address. Some bands just DON”T HAVE CONTACT INFORMATION. That’s like handing out a business card with your band name, and nothing else. I found a favorite web site yesterday where they listed an e-mail ink at the bottom of one page, and made it very, very tiny, and the color of the link was one shade different than the background (making it blend in almost invisible). NICE!
Now I know you might be thinking, “I don’t want a bunch of crap in my e-mail, so I don’t list my e-mail address.” That is completely understood where every day you find the opportunity to kill your debt, find anybody you want, make a million dollars working at home, or watch people having sex with farm animals, in your e-mail’s in box. We all hate unwanted, unsolicited mail. A simple solution is to use a free mail service such as yahoo, or hotmail for your band account (and keep your personal e-mail private). You will get some junk, you may also get some good offers. Get an e-mail address, check it daily, and make it available on every page of your web site. Make it easy to contact you. If you want to get real crazy put your phone number. Make it easy to buy.
