I am a new reviewer with GOM. I have already found some things that might help in submission for review.
1. SUBMIT A FULL SONG FOR REVIEW.
This sounds basic, but I ran across this in my first two reviews. It is hard to judge performance on a sound bite. We are GOM, but unless the small sample is extrordinary we might not be able to give your work the credit it deserves. Do yourself a favor and submit the full song.
2. CORRECT GENRES
Man, just ask your fans who you sound like and go from there. I get alternative artists submissions as blues. I get folk as alternative. It is pretty obvious when you listen, but it helps when assigning reviews if we have a real insite into what the genre is. It may delay the process if we have to “unassign” a review because of miscategorizing the style.
3. BE PATIENT AND BE NICE.
We are volunteers and an honest opinion will help even if your music had a less than glorious review. Sometimes the hardest thing to face as a musician is what we don’t want to hear. Don’t e-mail the individual reviewers and say personal things. Be professional and call us on the carpet if we are out of line. Even the GOM make mistakes. But do not get personal. This is about higher things than ourselves….the music.
