Electronica – A Response to Fire

January 23, 2020 By Manish

It is true that there is a lot of electronic music out there that is total crap, but I could name tons of artists who have more talent than many pop/rock/jazz/classical composers/song writers. Most people just don’t understand the appeal of the music. It has different purpose, different style, different mood. Most people consider Jazz to be a very skilled music style in which there are many extreamly talented musicians and composers, yet I know many people who say it is garbage and has no place in the world of music. They said that about rock, didn’t they? They still say that about punk. Some people even say that about classical music.

I say electric music is as valuable music as any other. There are as many talents there as elsewhere. It is still hard to make a good song.
I’m a sax and piano player playing classical and jazz music on a regular basis. I’m also a techno producer. I like to think of my self as a musician and so does everyone who hears me play. My composition outlet is techno. Does that make me no-talent, drug-crazy, raver trash? Anyone who says yes is just a snob and I couldn’t care less about that type of person.

Everyone also thinks that techno is only made for drug parties. Not true. There are drug parties and they do play techno at some of them, but they play punk at others and jazz at others. Take your pick. The drug may be different, but they all count.

People also comment on the thumping beat and the repetition of techno. Now think of a classical waltz. Repetitive beat; ever song has the same feel. Hmmmm.

Let’s not forget about synthesizers. Everyone seems to think that you press a button and the exact sound you want comes out magically. They couldn’t be more wrong. Synths have many settings that need to be adjusted individually to make the perfect sound. A piano has one sound, or two if you pluck it. A violin has various sounds, but not nearly as many as a synth. Analogue merely offers the producer limitless options to choose from to get exactly the sound he wants.

I’m sick and tired of all this “Electronica Sucks” crap. If you don’t like it, admit that you don’t like it and move on. Don’t mistake your opinion for God’s truth.
